So I said to the hubs that we should make burgers this evening. For some reason I followed that up by saying “ooops we don’t have any buns.” But the funny thing is I make all of our bread products and would never buy buns. He looked at me like I was crazy.
What was I thinking! So I quickly mixed up the following burger bun recipe and it was delicious. This was very easy. I have a recipe for the kitchen that I run at the lodge at Cal-Wood for 120 burger buns but had not developed one for home. I have a great one now!
This post was inspired by a post done on Memorial Day by the wonderful blog “We call him, YES CHEF!”
This is one of my favorite blogs right now. Please check it out and you will love it too. The onion ring recipe on the memorial day blog was delicious.
On the subject of being easy I follow hundreds of blogs. If you have a blog and it even mentions food there is a good chance I follow you. I guess I am sort of a blog slut.
But really…I love to read all blogs. I love the spectacularly pretty blogs, the ones that just post on what someone ate that day, the blogs that are clearly just a hobby and the pictures are all dark and hard to see. I love them all.
So here is a yummy burger recipe for you hard-working bloggers out there that put in so much time and effort to share their recipes, stories and lovely pictures.
Poblano Chile, Avocado and Cheddar Burger
1 lb good ground beef ( I get mine at Whole foods)
1 poblano chile roasted over a flame and sliced thinly
1 avocado, sliced
1/8 red onion sliced thinly
2 slices good cheddar cheese (I used tillamook sharp cheddar)
Sea salt and pepper to taste.
Home made burger buns
2 tbs yeast
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup warm water at about 110 degrees
1/4 cup melted butter
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 egg lightly beaten
For the burger buns.
Pre-heat oven to 425 degrees.
Mix dry ingredients together in the bowl of your food processor. Add egg, water and oil to the food processor. Process 15- 20 pulses or until dough becomes a ball. Process for 15 more pulses and turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface the knead 3-4 times to bring it all together. Divide dough into 12 balls and let rise for about 10 minutes on an oiled cookie sheet. Make sure to cover the dough balls with plastic wrap during the rising period.
Bake at 425 degrees until buns are risen and lightly browned on top. About 15-20 minutes.
Let cool on a rack before cutting for burgers.
Cooking your burgers.
I did not use the grill for my burgers but you can certainly use a grill to cook your burgers.
I cooked mine indoors in a cast iron pan. Here are some good tips on cooking stove top burgers. Stove top Burgers.
I like to finish my burger by putting on the cheese and leaving a lid on the pan for about 3-4 minutes and everything gets all melty and good.

I am online salivating…
Thanks!
Gee…it all looks sooooo good. I can almost taste it. Enjoy!!
Homemade buns…I never even thought about making those! With or without the homemade bun, the burger sounds delish.
The homemade buns really make it special. Thanks for visiting.
My husband loves fresh buns for hamburgers. This recipe just may be the way to go.
Let me know how it works for you.
Ooo, I love the look of those buns! For me the best part is in the buns and I see your burgers got it all. I’m yet to come across poblano chillies here but I love a good roasted pepper (in fact I have three red capsicums I am doing right this minute!)
Hmmmm, poblanos, what a wonderful addition! Looks fantastic!
Like 1/2 avocado as shrimp boat but will have to remember this to try.
Thanks for the burger bun recipe. Since I can’t eat wheat I have to make my own (I just substitute non-wheat flour) and my current recipe isn’t nearly this easy.
You know I think I will try this recipe with GF flour. Great idea.
I usually make my own burger buns, using a Dan Lepard recipe, but I’m going to try your recipe during the week as it seems to give a quicker result. Thanks for the recipe, Chef!
I will check that recipe out.
I love avocado on a burger, and adding the poblano might make it even better. Thanks for the tips!
I could eat roasted poblano chilies with everything.
Yumm! It’s 9 am and now all I can think about is a burger : )
That’s the best time.
Horray for stove-top burgers! I know it’s summer and grilling is the thing, but there’s just certain things you can’t do directly on a grill, like caramelize onions or make a reduction, or make your cheddar cheese go all ooey-gooey! This looks great!!!
What a yummy salute to bloggers, Connie, thank you. And I laughed out loud at my desk when the term “blog hussy” came to mind!

Thank you for the kind words! Yes!Chef! was pleased to hear that you liked the O’ring recipe. I think I would like him to make it again. I will definitely try the bun recipe. As much as I enjoyed the purchased Ciabatta bread that we got for our burgers, I would love to make our own buns. Your burgers looked divine!
We love poblano chiles and this looks sooooo good. To top it off you make your own buns and you call me a rock star because I can pickle a shrimp. I bow down to your greatness.
I love making homemade buns!
Will have to check out that site. These burgers look absolutely great!
Dying….decided to go on a diet today……Oh, I would kill for that burger. When I’m done I am sooooo making it!
Homemade buns? How fun! These burgers look quite tasty.
That’s one delicious-looking burger! Hamburger buns have been our our to-do list for a long time.
Mmmmm…I love a sloppy burger!
The roasted poblanos are a lovely idea! Gotta try my next burger that way
Wow you actually made everything from scratch!! That’s so impressive! And thanks for the tip on stove top burgers! I haven’t actually made burgers yet and now seems like a good time!
